Metallics were a hit on the runway during the Spring Summer fashion shows for 2013. They popped up in the designs of Burberry Prorsum, Versace, and Lanvin. There were bright metallics, as well as softer, muted metallics.
Bright Metallic Trench Coat from Burberry Prorsum
Vogue described the Burberry Prorsum collection as a candy selection. I can see that. The pieces are like brightly colored wrappers containing candy. It is great for the spring and summer. The whole collection is so exciting and fresh. A full metallic suit may be a little harder to sell, but everyone can find some pieces in a shiny metallic print to liven up their wardrobe.
Metallics from Versace
There were some very bright metallic pieces in the shows that might not be comfortable for everyone to incorporate into their wardrobe. I have searched for some pieces that would add a some metallic to your outfit without taking it over completely. From the high end to the low end, I have highlighted both.
Here are two metallic ties that would add a touch of metallic to your outfit, without being overwhelmed with the metallic print. The first is from Burberry London, you can find it at Bloomingdale’s for $150. A less pricey version is this one from River Island for $16. They both look great and would be a nice accessory for this spring.
Another way to add a little metallic style to your outfit is in your shoes. These bright gold ones from SSence and made by Maison Martin Margiela are very bold and sell for $530. If you’re not looking for something quite that bold or just something cheaper, the loafers from Asos are a good alternative. I like the simplicity of them and how they will still add a metallic piece to your outfit. They are only $51 at Asos.
One last way that you can put some metal in your wardrobe is a metallic pattern shirt. The first is Lanvin Metallic Print Polo Shirt, found at Mr. Porter for $415. This shirt would look so amazing on. The stripes on the sleeves just add that something that would be very eye catching. The second shirt is from Urban Outfitters. It is the Rag Union x Urban Renewal Foiled Denim Shirt and at $40, it would be a very affordable piece for your wardrobe.
So what do you think about metallics for Spring Summer 2013? Would you go all out in metallic or add a small metallic piece to the rest of your outfit?
